Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
