Energy infrastructure under attack in the region
Ukraine's energy systems have come under increased attacks in the past few days

Throughout the evening, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have caused power cuts in multiple districts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Several individuals were hurt while residents in the city's east were left without electricity and faced problems to drinking water, according to municipal leaders.

Simultaneously, a seven-year-old child was fatally injured in a different Russian drone strike in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, based on information from local officials.

Russian forces has escalated strikes on electrical systems over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "substantial measures" from partner nations to increase pressure on Moscow.

"What's needed is not superficial actions but strong steps - from the US, the EU and the major economies - in delivering protection systems and applying restrictions," he wrote in a public message.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and several dozen projectiles struck the country's power systems, labeling such strikes as "cynical and calculated" and against "critical infrastructure" as temperatures become colder.

Government representatives said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and maintenance teams were laboring to restore power.

A barrage of missiles damaged power facilities and civilian homes in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people hurt in the attacks on the city have been transported for medical care, as confirmed by municipal representatives.
